American Public Health Association
Anthony Westwater Jong Memorial Community Dental Public Health Award

Pre-professional award: Recognizes an outstanding community-based research or service project of an oral health nature carried out by a pre-doctoral dental student, or a dental hygiene student, or a hygienist who has graduated from an accredited school of dental hygiene in the United States within the preceding 12 months. (Up to 2 awards each year)
The award provides two recipients a $200.00 cash award, a copy of Jong?s Community Dental Health, 5th Edition, one year membership in APHA Oral Health Section, and the registration fee to the APHA annual meeting.

John W. Knutson Distinguished Service Award

The award is presented to honor an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to improve oral health in the United States. An award of $1,500 and an inscribed silver tray commemorating the occasion is presented by members of the APHA Oral Health Section.

American Dental Education Association
ADEA/Colgate-Palmolive/National Dental Association Dr. Jeanne Sinkford Scholar

Dr. Jeanne C. Sinkford, DDS, PhD. Was the first woman to become a Dean of a U.S. Dental School. She is a renowned scholar and champion of the advancement of women in dental education, the dental profession and the medical sciences. The Sinkford Scholar receives an award in the amount of $15,000 that allows her to participate in the ADEA Leadership Institute. To learn more, visit the ADEA site -

ADEA/Colgate-Palmolive Allied Dental Educators Fellowship

This fellowship provides the opportunity for an allied dental educator to focus on a broad range of issues affecting allied dental education. The recipient can choose one of the following activities: The ADEA Leadership Institute ? The recipient can choose to attend the ADEA Leadership Institute through a $4,000 award that is applied directly to the applicant?s tuition and fees. ADEA Center for Education Policy and Research ? The recipient can choose to spend the fellowship at the ADEA office. The fellow receives a stipend of $4,000 to cover travel and expenses for the cumulative three-month experience in Washington, DC. ADEA/Colgate-Palmolive Excellence in Teaching Award

This award recognizes dental educators who demonstrate exemplary standards and promote excellence in dental education through scholarship and innovation. The recipient will receive a $2,500 award to be used only to enhance his or her teaching efforts. To learn more, visit the ADEA site -

ADEA/ADEA Council of Students/Colgate-Palmolive Junior Faculty Award

This award recognizes an outstanding junior faculty who demonstrates excellence in teaching, research, and service and a commitment to dental education. International Association for Dental Research
IADR/AADR H. Trendley Dean Memorial Award

This award recognizes meritorious research in epidemiology and public health. Support is provided by the estate of Frank J. McClure, in memory of the late H. Trendley Dean, and by the Colgate-Palmolive Company. The award, consisting of a plaque and a cash stipend, is presented annually, provided a worthy recipient is nominated. Colgate / IADR Oral Health Research Award

The Oral Health Research Group of the IADR is inviting nominations for a group-sponsored award in oral health research. The purpose of the award is to recognize a body of meritorious research by a member of the IADR Oral Health Research Group, with preference given to a Dental Hygienist. A Certificate of Recognition and one cash award in the amount of $2,000 will be made. This award is intended to provide travel and other support related to attending the IADR annual meeting and participating in the Oral Health Research Group activities. The Ohio State University School of Dentistry
Volpe Prize

The Volpe Prize recognizes the best clinical research in periodontology by dentistry students in accredited dental schools or dental post-graduate programs in Canada, Mexico or the U.S. One abstract from each dental academic institution will be accepted for review. Twelve finalists will be selected to make oral presentations at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio in May 2009. Each finalist will receive a $500 travel grant. National Dental Association
NDA Scholarship Program

Established in 1990, the NDAF/Colgate Palmolive Scholarship Fund provides financial aid to African American and under-represented minorities pursuing careers as dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants. Since 1990, 1.5 million dollars has been awarded to 1,100 students from across the country. -
